The 13th Biennial Conference of the ECPR Standing Group on the European Union (SGEU) officially opened on 1 July 2026 at the University of Catania, welcoming hundreds of scholars, researchers, and experts in European studies from across Europe and beyond. The three-day conference provides a forum for discussing the major political, economic, and social challenges facing the European Union in an increasingly complex international environment.
Conference Opening and Welcome Remarks
The opening day featured a packed programme of parallel panels covering a wide range of topics, including European security, EU economic governance, the Green Deal, migration, social policy, artificial intelligence governance, and institutional reform.
